Spring Is Nearly Here

So it's March 1st...nearly spring! As it is early Sunday morning I have decided that I am going to do a massive spring cleaning. Life is so hectic and messy at the moment and with January and February having it's ups and downs and also with it being my 23rd birthday next Saturday I have decided to be more organised and get myself back into my routine.

Change my bedding - I do this every other week anyway but I am so lazy in actually making my bed everyday as I tend to get up like 20-30 minutes before I have to leave. As I'm trying to get myself into a routine I want to wake up about an hour earlier in which I can actually make my bed, go for a quick run/speed walk on the treadmill, jump in shower and then head to work. I will also be able to make myself a much healthier breakfast instead of throwing on toast or cereal bars.
Have a to-do list - I tend to write to-do lists on a Tuesday when I'm off but I seen on Instagram that some girl writes her to do lists every night for the following day and this makes her be productive. I work 8:30am til 4:30pm and when I get home I tend to make the tea, jump a shower and then jump into bed for the night. I am literally the least productive person in the week. To-do lists actually help me to keep on top of my tasks and help me be productive. I've always kept a to-do list on my phone but I hardly ever look at this so I think writing it on a notepad will actually be better.
Use a calendar - Last week I was sitting in the pub with my friends and one of the whipped out her diary and starting writing her weekly schedule and was telling us when she was free to next meet. We all laughed but thinking of it she is one of the busiest and productive people in our group. One of my other mates fills his calendar out on his phone and is another busy person. I am quite good at remembering dates for things such as; special occasions and birthdays but I am useless at remembering what day I have planned things and end up having to cancel and rearrange as I have double booked.
Music - I was actually going to declutter yesterday (with it being the extra day of the year and all that. To be honest, I think with it being an extra day we should have a 3 day weekend...who agrees?!) but I decided to put Sweet Home Alabama on. I hadn't seen it yet and it got recommended so I ended up getting into my bed and watching that along with another 3 or 4 films. Oopsies... I don't know why I did that when I knew music is the one to choose. I have a few playlists on my Apple Music in which I just put on depending on my mood. I have: - DanceXL - Which is usually the music I use when I am about to go out or want a dance. Feeling Happy - Which consists of artists such as; Fleetwood Mac, Beatles, Florence & The Machine, Elton John, Coldplay, Stereophonics, Mumford & Sons, The 1975 and The Kooks. Mellow Days - Which is a chilled out playsuit featuring artists such as; Sam Smith, Harry Styles, Lewis Capaldi, Niall Horan, JP Saxe, The Script Billie Eilish and JC Stewart. Pure Workout - This is what I whack on when I'm about to exercise. I also love having my favourite artists essentials albums. I love The Script, Stereophonics, Queen, Fleetwood Mac, One Direction (but as solo artists), Shania Twain, Celine Dion and many others. - Yes I have a wide range of music ahaha so no getting bored.
Do it in your own pace and break it up - If I do things at my own pace I tend not to get stressed and it is more enjoyable. I can stop whenever I want to so it is less overwhelming. Also, breaking the bigger tasks into smaller tasks can make it feel a lot easier and you may find that you'll get more things on your to-do list being ticked off.
I was trying to find an important email which I couldn't find so this has made me realise that I need to start organising that a bit more. And as Sunday's are usually my lazy days I have decided that on Sunday's I am going to keep organised and on top of my accounts and have weekly clear outs and sort into folders. I always get junk emails and subscribe to so many clothing and beauty websites which offer discounts. They must love me and my bank must hate me. As well as having a clear out I should really have a look through my Phone Contacts as there are so many people who I have lost contact with so don't really need their number. Also, I have 3 purses so should go through them and have a declutter because I'm sure they'll be full of receipts and loyalty cards to places I don't go to often.
Make Back-Ups of everything - A few years ago my phone got robbed and I lost everything and nothing was backed to the iCloud. I then lost quite a lot of photos when my hard drive broke down. I have now learnt that I should back up my computer files and make duplicates on a separate hard drive. I have a folder which keeps all my important information together such as; birth certificates, school certificates, passport and financial records in. I have also scanned these in to my computer to keep a digital copy.
Recycle and Donate - Every few months I love to just take everything out of my drawers, wardrobe and under my bed and divide into piles - Keep, Donate, Bin. I'm not the type of girl to wear a dress once and then sell. The amount of times I have worn the same dress. But I do have the bad habit of checking my Instagram to see if I have worn the outfit recently. I love getting rid of clothes as I do have to many but then a while later complain that I have nothing and then get back online to buy more clothes. Then I moan that I have no money. Never ending cycle. I also have the habit of buying clothes and then putting them in the wardrobe ready for an event, yet never wear it. Amount with tags on is ridiculous.
Check the expiry date - Anyone ever check the expiry date of their makeup and skincare? I am so bad. I have so many products that I forget when I bought them and that the usual expiry date is only 6-24months. But suppose we probably do go through them quickly, especially skincare. But it's important to check the expiry date on foods and medicines as this can be bad for your health.
Put things away immediately - I am also terrible at this. Amount of times I dump my ironing on my chair and it builds and builds and builds. I always say I will do it straight away when the piles are small but I just get side tracked.

It's A Lonely World...

Hey guys,

So I actually started this blog post at the end of January and had wrote about the impact Dry January had on me but then I got distracted and didn't get around to publishing it. But after the recent tragic death of Caroline Flack I have decided to re-write this post.

Dry January had it's ups and downs and they say some benefits of it includes; healthier skin, more energy, more motivated/productive, better finances, weight loss, healthier liver, a better sleep pattern etc. However, I was quite ill December and January so I didn't really face many of these positivities. My sleep was all over the place - was napping a lot and wide awake at night, brain was in constant overthinking mode, skin was a mess (so many spots and red), constant headaches, no concentration and no energy. But although my bank account and liver was happy. And although Dry January actually done me a world of good in the long term, I've actually realised that taking nights out out the equation I don't do anything and that I just stay in and binge watch tv. I don't even get changed. Sometimes it does good and everybody has to have a lazy day but I do it quite often. Sometimes I think me and my friends are all at different stages of our life and that I'm stuck in a rut. People think I'm just the 'party' and 'energetic' person. But I'm more than that.

A few months ago, one of my friends told me she knew me and that I pretend not to care when deep down I do. She's right. I'm not good with emotions. There has been 2 big situations with lads where it ended really, really sh*t and I was just like 'Yeah I'm okay', 'I knew it was coming', 'I didn't like him anyway' etc. I try to justify every situation. But deep down I was heartbroken at the situations and the crying would just come at night. So no one ever saw. I've dated a few guys since but my barriers are really high and I tend to run away when they actually want a date or if they want a second date. Dates give me major anxiety. And I'm not a fan of these dating apps. I always think at my wedding I want to give a 'cute' story of how we met and not be like 'Oh yeah I thought he was fit so swiped right'. It works for some people but I am old school.

Another one of my friends was down and was saying about how 3 of our close friends have relationships and that she wants one. She started comparing and saying how she was left behind in terms of relationships, driving and having a full-time job. I said that I was too. She commented 'But you don't care'. That was hurtful. Not hurtful in the sense that she hurt me, but I've hurt myself as I have given off that persona when deep down I feel the same as her.

I also think it's pressure as my sister who is a year younger than me is engaged with a 7 month old baby and a house. My sister is the complete opposite to me too, so it came unexpected to everyone. My sister isn't a sociable person, doesn't drink and loves to stay in and watch every TV programme going. She met her fiancé in work and after 2 dates were officially together, moved in 4 months later and then 4 months later ended up pregnant. Yes very fast. But for her it works. The amount of family and friends who compare us and make little comments is crazy. And that is what puts me down the most. 'Nadine your so sociable', 'How do you go on nights out and not meet a guy', 'We always thought you'd be first'. My two younger brothers aren't 'man slags' either, if they like a girl they get in a relationship with them. So then I hear comments from that too. I know I don't have to, but I feel pressure in having to keep lads a secret until I know they are going to be someone I am going to settle with, just because of my siblings relationships and the fact I am the eldest.

But it's not even relationships. The amount of comments my family make about the weight I've put on (double chin is the big one) or if I'm having issues with my skin. I know my siblings have only just become teenagers so don't actually understand and will probably suffer with their skin when they are older. But I am sensitive. And these little comments do get to me. It plays on my mind.

So on Thursday night I got my shower, in my pjs and curled up on the couch. Like most days after work but I must have had a face on me. My mum asked me what was up and I just said nothing. Friday I done the same and then yesterday I just lay in bed until about 4:30pm. My mum just said 'Nadine, what's the matter, you look lost'. But I do. How do you explain that? If I said yes, she would ask why. I don't know why. It's like when you hit a bump in the road, but it's a never ending bump. It literally took it's toll on my routine and how I felt everyday. Well it was more than a bump to be honest. My parents got me some chocolates and flowers to cheer me up but it's more than that isn't it?!

The news of Caroline Flack came out and I felt . I know she was going through a tough time with her court case and she didn't have the best track record with relationships but you would have thought she had so many people to speak to and get the help she needed. Especially as they all know how vulnerable she was and how she has been open about her mental health in the past. 40 years old and so talented. Such sadness.

But it's not just Caroline Flack, there are so many people. Everyone suffers at one point of their life. Who expected Robin Williams to be depressed? Or Marilyn Monroe? Amy Winehouse? Heath Ledger having mental health issues? Its ridiculously crazy! Even today, a professional skater for Dancing on Ice has pulled out due to the negative press and the impact it has had on his mental health. Even look at Princess Diana and what the press done to her? And Meghan Markle. Hardly surprised she has left England to move back to Canada. This isn't what we were born or grown to live in.

Words have such a huge yet damaging effect on everyone, whether it's a celebrity, their family, a friend or a stranger. It only needs to be one comment. People do and say things for basically a like, a retweet, a laugh. And its harmful especially a the expense of someone else, which can ultimately push them over the breaking point. It's not about being 'sensitive' or 'dramatic.' I always think would I like that comment being said to me? How would that make me feel? Some people may find that they can 'brush' things off and have 'thick skin' but there does come a time. For everybody. I always make out that I can brush things off, when I know I can't and it was replay itself over and over and over again in my head. I even play scenarios in my head that haven't even happened.

Some tips to help if your feeling lonely or sad:

Speak to at least one person
Go for a walk
Blog
Take a long hot bath with some candles list
Feeling Happy playlist
Cry - Letting it all out can actually help
Inspirational/motivational quotes - I follow so many accounts that are dedicated to quotes
Take yourself away from social media - There's so much negativity out there as well as people posting fake pictures to seem perfect.
Be creative - colouring, jigsaws, puzzles
Exercise
Tidy up - Cleaning is a one person job and can do whatever jobs you feel like doing. Cleaning actually makes my head feel a bit tidier too.
Be honest with someone about how you feel
Wake up and think of something positive or that you are appreciative of - Consider how lucky you are and remember how far you have come
Cook or bake something
Make plans with people - get in touch with people you have lost contact with
Write about how your feeling - It takes a weight off your shoulders, believe me
Celebrate your achievements
Book yourself in with your salon - Whether its your eyelashes, eyebrows, spray tan, nails, hair, facial - This can do wonders
Volunteer

"You remember the bad times more than the good times. Because when you're struggling you cry for a week but when you succeed you celebrate for a day. Appreciate your wins more".

How To Get Saving

Hey guys,

So anyone who knows me knows I am a bad saver and that once I get a payslip I will blow most of it. I think its because when I worked in Subway I lived on £600-£700 a month max and I was a student too so I was out clubbing most nights as well as paying rent and phone bills and a travel pass. Since getting a full time job I have learnt that I was able to manage and still have fun on £700, so I now usually take the difference of what I get in my payslips to the £700. I then split the difference into 2 so one can go into my everyday savings and then the other half can go into my Help to Buy ISA.

Everytime a parcel arrives for me my parents are quick to judge and say 'Thought you was saving' blah blah blah. But I always have an excuse to justify the spending; whether its somebody's birthday, occasion or even a really big discount. When they ask me how much I've spent I tend to knock a few off to make it sound a lot better than it actually is. But now that I'm reaching 23 soon I have realised there are more important things than really expensive makeup or a new outfit each time I go out. I want to save for my driving and holidays but also future things such as; wedding, children and a home.

Budget

As I have mentioned above I have just opened another 2 accounts as well as my general everyday use account. It is important to be able to budget in order to track and manage bills and expenses. Normally when I go shopping or on a night out my budget goes out the window and then the next day I will be full of regret. Not because I don't love the shopping I have brought back but I do think 'Do I necessarily need it?!'. Some girl in work lives on her month's payslip so say we get paid the 20th and on the 19th she has £300 left over, she will instantly move that £300 into her savings account. This is a good way to budget I think. Also, having a goal set can help give you the motivation and encouragement to save. Like I previously said, 2020 is the year where I am going to focus on my driving lessons.

Sales

I love a good sale. Who doesn't?! Also, I am so grateful that I only have small feet so can actually save so much just buying junior shoes instead of women's shoes. In the Boxing Day sale I wanted some Fila's and they were reduced from £85 to £45. I was well buzzing. I also love Primark. My younger brothers are always saying 'Guess how much this cost' and it will be a T-Shirt or Hoodie would be £80, their shoes would be like £150-£210. It's ridiculous. Then they'll judge me for wearing Primark clothes instead of designer but I say to them my whole shopping costs the same as one T-shirt so what would I rather have?...

Wait

On my phone I have album which has makeup and skincare products in then an album with outfits in. I tend to find quite a bit of things on social media, in my emails or online that I would like to buy. I then screenshot them and then put them into the albums. I then either wait for a sale before I purchase or sometimes when I'm looking through the albums I actually think 'Do I need this?' or 'Do I even like this anymore?' And often I just find that I actually delete the screenshot instead of actually purchasing the product. If I still like the product I tend to wait a few weeks/months until it becomes cheaper. I have found that although I love an item and wait for it to go a bit cheaper my size may be out of stock. Although I am gutted I am also a bit relieved that I have actually just saved. Anyone else?

Unsubscribe From Online Retail Newsletters

I need to follow this actually. I am signed up to too many websites. Rebellious, I Saw It First, Pretty Little Thing, Spectrum, Misguided, Boohoo, JD, ASOS, Boots, Superdrug, Cult Beauty. You name it, I'm subscribed. I can't help it. They offer really good discounts and deals. I am going to unsubscribe though because I believe if they don't send me the latest trends then I'm not likely to screenshot. Also, by unsubscribing my mind won't be thinking about the great deals and discounts they are offering.

Avoid Shopping Centres

I used to live 15 minutes on the bus to the Liverpool City Centre or it was a 10 minute walk to my local shopping centre. But now I have moved to where it takes me either 5 minutes in the car to the local shopping centre or 20 minute walk then 30 minutes on the bus to the Liverpool City Centre. Although this is a pain in the arse as most of friends live or work in the Liverpool City Centre, it means that if I decide to walk then I am getting exercise as well as having to take into consideration its essential or a necessity to go shopping.

I do love window shopping and not actually buying anything. It is hard to avoid the temptation to go inside and buy something but I actually feel proud knowing I can walk past admire something yet not desire it. My friends think its mad that I still like to get cash out instead of just using my card but I think right I have £100 in my purse then I'll end up budgeting it in the shops whereas if I didn't have cash and just used card then the price is limitless. The same for contactless cards and Apple pay. I haven't unlocked the contactless service because it is so much easier to just place the card on the machine so I am more likely to use. The amounts of nights out I have been on where I'm like I spent such and such and my mates are like 'Yeah contactless is awful because I have spent a fortune'. I do have Apple Pay set up but I don't use it. It is lucky it's set up as I lost my card a while ago and when I called to cancel the card they said I was able to use Apple pay straight away whilst I waited for my new card.

To conclude, saving is really difficult for many people, especially for me, but there are so many ways to budget and cut down on the spending so hopefully being focused and determined will help me to save a lot more. Let's see how I go for the first quarter of the year before I say let's see how I go until the end of the year ahah.

Things I Should Stop Spending My Money On

Hey guys,

So this year I have decided that I need to stop spending so much money that isn't worth while as I was looking at my spends and it is ridiculous. I can spend so much money on drinks on a night out and then ended up spending even more money on food and taxis. I can go through a £100 on one night out. I am also a fan of cinemas which can also add up. So this year I have decided I am going to take a look at what I can do to stop spending as much money. I am 23 soon and should really use the money to start saving for driving lessons and my own place.

Dining Out & Ordering Takeouts

I go for so many catch ups with my friends and we end up dining out. Although its lovely to have a catch up and eat out at our favourite restaurants, it does add up. When I worked in the city centre I was prone to dining out quite a lot but know I work with my mum til 4:30pm each day I tend to just go straight home and cook. Also, I don't work Tuesdays so I tend to go for lunch each week with my Auntie whether its an actual meal or treats like brownies or waffles. But she's had her hours increased so we tend to just do it once a month now. This makes our days out more special too.
My cousin basically lives at ours on weekends and we have a habit of ordering a Chinese and when she isn't here and my dad doesn't want to cook he tends to order Pizza. So either way we are constantly having takeaways on weekends. I have decided to not buy as much fast food to help my skin as well as saving myself money. I mean with my dad buying the takeaway I don't actually have to spend any money but I do want to improve my health and skincare.

Makeup & Skincare

Omg I actually didn't realise how much I actually spent. New Year's Day I decided to have a massive clear out of my drawers and I couldn't believe the amount of stuff I ended up binning or giving to my little sisters. You would think I was a professional MUA or something. I had 6 of the same Collection concealers... in the same shade too. I had 1 in my day handbag, 1 in my most used town bag and the 4 in my drawer. Some were near enough empty. Then I had 3 moisturisers - 2 of the same with 1 near enough empty and 1 that makes my skin a bit greasy but I like to use this for night time. I decided to move the near empty ones to the front so then once they've been used I can then shorten my drawers down. Think I like having the big collection, who knows ahah?!

Cinema Tickets

I am a sucker for movies. I can actually spend the whole day in bed watching film after film after film and not get bored. I have actually been the cinema to watch a film, come out and purchase a ticket to see another film straight afterwards. Its just such a chilled vibe and gets me out the house. But this year I am going to start limiting myself and maybe doing something more active and outdoors. Plus Netflix or Amazon Prime over cinema.

Food Crawl On A Night Out

I am shocked I am not fat. Forget bar crawls I love a food crawl. When we decide to end our night and head for taxi we usually go get some food whilst we wait. When I say 'some' food the girls will either go for a Subway or a McDonalds. On the other hand, I go for a Cheesy Chip Wrap in a Pizza place, then I head to Subway for a meal deal then I go to McDonalds for another meal deal. Seriously!! I'm definitely going to kick that in the bud and not be as greedy and just opt for the one meal deal ahaha.

Gym Membership

I wouldn't actually mind spending money on it if I actually could commit to going. I go through phases where I go a few times a week but I haven't been since August so I should really cancel it or get back into it. This will save me at least £30 each month. I also find I get bored or anxious at the gym so don't usually stay in there for long so prefer to go for long walks or exercising at home using non-equipment based routines or Youtube and Instagram videos.

What 2019 Taught Me

Hey guys,

2018 broke me. 2019 gave me a fresh start and taught me a lot of lessons. And now I am excited for what 2020 will bring. I have decided to write a post of what I learnt in 2019 and how it helped me develop and grow into 2020.
2018 was suppose to be one of the greatest years - I turned 21, graduated with a 2:1 in a subject I was very passionate about, booked a girls holiday to Barcelona, got a really good job, etc. But there was a lot of blocks in the way which was such a BIG struggle.

Breathe & Let it Go

As much as I say I'm not a fan of Frozen (my sisters played it too many times) I do love the song 'Let It Go' - "I'm never going back, the past is in the past". I have had to learn this lesson quite a fair bit. Not even going into detail about how I learnt my lesson. But this lesson made me realise that you may think people have changed but they may not have as much as you would have liked (or none at all) and that I shouldn't get hung up on that they hadn't changed. The first time I learnt my lesson was beginning of July and I felt I got closure with that certain person. (Well I thought I had). The second time I learnt my lesson was end of September when one of my close friends showed that she wasn't as close to me as I thought we were. She showed me that she wasn't happy for me and turned into my problem. We still speak and are civil but we are not as close anymore. But anyway...I have learnt that I don't need to please people and just focus on myself. I was also able to have strength and gut to have my own voice and walk away. I was able to let go of the feeling of hurt and disappointment. This links in with trusting my gut too. Onwards and upwards is what I say!

Get Out The Comfort Zone

I can suffer with major anxiety and overthinking when it comes to getting out my comfort zone. And although I graduated with a BA in Early Childhood Studies and was going to do an extra year doing the PGCE qualification, I was too 'comfortable' in my workplace. I worked in Subway for just less than 4 years. I was one of the originals who still worked there from the beginning. My mum works in an Accounts office and heard a job was going and knew that although it wasn't teaching I was good at Maths and Computers and put my name forward. I eventually left Subway (which to be honest I do actually miss, think it was because I had a really good social life there and I had the best co-workers/friends) and went to work in Accounts. I really like this job and I like how I have a structured routine with 8:30-4:30pm Monday to Friday and better pay. Plus weekends off. I am starting to push myself more to get out my comfort zone. I hate picking phones up and I still do need to improve on this massively but it is a necessity in my job so thats pushing me. Whenever I have had a good phonecall and haven't frozen I feel a sense of achievement (just a little).
My friends and I went to climb Moel Famau. We got 85% of the way but that was our first try. Who knows next time we may get all the way. There are 3 routes depending on people's abilities and time you want to spend. We went for the medium route which took roughly about 2 hours. We were all knackered but we all felt so good, refreshed and pleased with ourselves.

Use My Spare Time Productively

I am a known sleeper. 15 minutes spare - I'll be asleep. I still need to learn to control my naps as I am known to have naps and then still be wide awake at 1am when I have to be up for 7am to leave for 8. Half 7 and I'll still be in bed. I used to put so much pressure on myself and make sure I accomplished things within a short period of time but it cost me my happiness as I was getting very frustrated, stressed and less patient. 2019 has taught me that this year I need to do short realistic goals and maybe focus on one thing at a time.
This year I am going to do my driving lessons so I am going to reduce the amount of nights out and maybe sacrifice a big holiday in order to pay for the lessons and tests. After completing this I might go and do my Numeracy & Literacy skills test, as I feel this will push me to go back into teaching. On my phone I have a motivational quotes album and when I feel down or have no energy I tend to scroll through this photo album to give me some inspiration.

Stop Searching For Love

A lot of people rely on apps nowadays and although I have had a nosey I want to be on my wedding day telling people a romantic story of how I met my partner instead of saying 'Yeah I thought he was good looking so swiped right not knowing his personality'. I'm old schooled. I have found that people who I have spoken to for a while have come unexpectedly and have made me feel happier (even when it didn't work out). This year I actually want to focus more on myself and what I actually want as well as focusing on my driving. Sometimes I do envy people who are in a relationship (especially with my sister & her fiancé and their son) but I actually like being single too as I enjoy my nights out and being independent and doing things for me. My mates don't like being single and use the apps and yes they do find people on there but thats what works for them. It's different for everybody. I believe the right person will come at the right time.

Work Hard, Play Harder

Work hard always pays off. In September 2018 I left my job in Subway and became an Accounts Assistant and I am so much happier physically, emotionally, socially and financially. I have been motivated and such a hardworker that they have extended my roles and responsibilities knowing I can handle it. The staff have also told me I'm not allowed to leave until they retire ahaha.
